Australian GP Recap – Shaul Responds, Idan Breaks Through, Aston Martin Closes In
Australian GP Recap (S6 R04) 🇦🇺
Round 4 of Season 6 at Albert Park was unlike any other race in PSGiL history.
With the war between Israel and Iran unfolding, the league faced a difficult decision — but ultimately chose to race while adapting the championship format to protect drivers affected by rocket alarms or interruptions.
Despite the circumstances, the race itself delivered strategy battles, intense fights, and an important shift in the championship narrative.
🏆 The Winner: Shaul Ezra returns to victory
After losing the win streak in Mexico, Shaul Ezra responded exactly how a defending champion should.
- P1 → P1 (Pole to Win)
- Controlled the race throughout both stints
- Managed tyres and pace perfectly while chaos unfolded behind
Shaul never looked threatened at the front and secured his third win of the season, strengthening his championship lead.
🥈 Idan Turjeman breaks through
One of the biggest stories of the race.
Idan Turjeman delivered a sensational drive to secure his first PSGiL podium:
- P6 → P2 (+4)
- Won the early multi-driver battle for P2
- Managed strategy and pace flawlessly in the second stint
Idan has long been considered a promising talent — but after this race, it's clear:
He is no longer just promising. He is now firmly among the league’s top drivers.
🥉 Guy Azran returns to the podium
Consistency paid off for Guy Azran, who secured P3 after a strong race.
- P2 → P3
- Fought intensely for second place early on
- Managed tyres and pressure during the long opening stint
This result marks Guy Azran’s first podium since Season 2, ending a long wait and putting him firmly back in the competitive conversation.
⚔️ The Battle for Second
The opening stint produced one of the best battles of the season.
Fighting for P2 were:
- Idan Turjeman
- Eden Azran
- Guy Azran
All starting on Medium tyres, while Guy Rapke joined the fight on Hard tyres with impressive pace.
The battle lasted several laps before the strategies began to diverge.
A critical moment came on Lap 12, when Eden Azran made a mistake, dropping positions and falling out of the podium fight.
Despite this, Eden recovered strongly to P6 after a tough fight with Haim Braha, who returned to the league after a break.
Meanwhile, Idan eventually broke away from Guy Azran in the second stint, securing the position that became P2.
🚨 War Conditions Impact
Remarkably, the race ran almost entirely without rocket alarms.
However, just a few laps before the finish, Guy Rapke experienced a rocket alarm, forcing him to slow down and disrupting his race — costing him several positions.
Because of the ongoing situation, PSGiL implemented a special championship adjustment:
Original format:
Best 9 races out of 10 count
Updated format:
Best 8 races out of 10 count
This ensures that drivers who could not participate or were interrupted due to alarms are not unfairly penalized — while still allowing the race to count for those who competed.
📉 A missed opportunity for Zarotsky
After his dominant Mexico victory, Lior Zarotsky had strong momentum coming into Australia.
However, he unfortunately did not attend the race, missing the opportunity to capitalize on that momentum and potentially close the championship gap.
⭐ Special Mentions (Pole / Fastest Lap / DOTD)
- Pole: Shaul Ezra 🥇
- Fastest Lap: Kelly Aiche ⚡ (1:18.684)
- Driver of the Day: Kelly Aiche ⭐
Kelly quietly delivered a very strong race pace and secured both awards.
🆕 A promising debut
Australia also marked the league debut of Shahar Horowitz.
- P11 → P11
- Calm and consistent race
- Solid pace for a first appearance
A promising start that hints at strong potential for future rounds.
🏁 Championship Context
After Round 4, the championship picture becomes clearer.
Drivers Championship
- Shaul Ezra — 89 pts
- Eden Azran — 64 pts
- Youssef Shaheen — 52 pts
Shaul’s win allows him to extend the championship lead, but the midfield behind him continues to tighten.
Constructors Championship
- Mercedes — 113 pts
- McLaren — 113 pts
- Aston Martin — 91 pts
The biggest story here is Aston Martin’s massive race, scoring 34 points thanks to Idan and Youssef and closing the gap to the leading teams dramatically.
💬 Final Thoughts
Australia was more than just another round.
It was a race held under extraordinary circumstances, where drivers balanced competition with the reality of rocket alarms and uncertainty.
Yet the PSGiL community showed once again what makes the league special:
commitment, resilience, and racing spirit.
And on track, the championship fight continues to build.
Round 5 can’t come soon enough.
